Personal:

I am 23 years old and have never run (for pleasure) in my life.  I am now training to run a half-marathon with my sister.  She lives in Indiana and I in California, so I'm almost positive our first run together will be the half.  In the past six months I have lost 40lbs to proper eating alone, so now I feel confident that I won't destroy my knees with too much weight.

I had to go to the doctors yesterday because of a chemical burn to my eyes that then caused an infection.  Gross.  I know.  Let this be a lesson to all - wear your d*** goggles in the pool when you do laps.  One bit of good news from the doc - Blood pressure - 98 over 70.  She actually told me to eat more salt.  Who in the world ever actually gets to eat more salt because their doc told them to?  :-)

Ran a really easy 1.5m today after work - even though I'm sick, allergic to everything that grows, and have this pesky eye thing - it was so much easier than even a week ago, and I increased the speed.   This endurance training is working and not leaving me exhausted as I thought it would, but actually energized.

3.250.000.000.000.003.25

A little bit of an odd report today.  In total I ran 3.25 miles, but they were at separate times.  I went to the gym alone (it is not safe to run in my area - because of cars and people) and did two miles straight on the treadmill (at an incline of course to ensure proper intensity).

After I finished and was getting into my car, I got a call from the love of my life saying he was about to go to the gym himself.  First thought, "Score!  Now I can finally learn how to use those confounded weight machines!"  I got there before him, and hopped on the treadmill again - then I did the next 1.25 while waiting for him to get there and do his cardio.

After cardio, worked on upper body and legs (different from normal routine when I just do stretches and crunches because I don't know how to use the machines).  I also learned something new about him in the process - he has weak knees (this I knew) but he doesn't workout the muscles surrounding his knees, aka no leg weights.  Hence why he never runs but instead sticks with the eliptical or bike.  I made him work in with me and he was pretty much shocked that he could only lift 20 - 40lbs more than me on any given leg exercise.  To which point he said, "Geez, you're strong."  I replied, "Of course I am, I'm a girl!"

Mondays are a day of rest/light activity (walking, slow swimming or biking).  Good thing too because I was dealing with a migraine most of the day.  Since I just got my gym membership and my swimsuit, I thought, "Hey, what the heck, I'll go swimming, that's easy on the body!"

That's all fine and dandy, except when you forget that gym pools are insanely chlorinated , and while you may have a swimsuit and cap, that means almost nothing when you don't have goggles.  I'm just not a fan of waking up in the middle of the night unable to open or close my eyes without pain.

I didn't even realize it, but I work with a marathoner!  And he even trains kids for 5k's and 10k's.  So obviously I asked him a bunch of questions - lots of info and tips, which he was more than happy to share.  He gave me really good stretches for my hamstring and how often I should do it - already feeling much better after one day of proper stretching.  Starting from scratch is not easy.

I have told everyone at work that I am training to run a half - because I don't have a training partner, every little bit of support helps.

Today was cross-training day, stretched out, did 30 min of intervals on a stationary bike.  Kept RPMS at 80 on easy intervals, and 90-95 on the hard intervals.  Next X-train I will up the intensity.
